Special Fundraising Appeal!
We are creating a beautiful Community Built playground in Vallejo's historic City Park, and we'd like for you to join us!
Our magical new playground will be unlike any other in Vallejo: Imagined by our children; designed by professionals and local artisans; spearheaded by parents, neighbors, teachers and community leaders; and built by local volunteers. It will encourage the continued rebirth of City Park and reflect Vallejo's growing sense of local pride.
We are lucky. We have a Community Development Block Grant to use as a basic financial foundation, but that will only cover part of the funds needed for our playground. It's not enough to reach our goal. We still need your help.
Our immediate goal is to collect $3000 - $5000 by mid-April to hire a professional playground designer - one who specializes in the Community Design process and who will render a plan after facilitating a variety of design outreach gatherings. For this we need sponsors. "Fairy Godparents," visionaries who understand that to see a project to fulfillment we must first distill our children's imagination into a viable design plan.
We need a core group of believers who can help us turn our children's bright ideas into actual plans. Are you part of that select group? We have the feeling you are.
All early sponsorship that helps us reach our design-day goal will be recognized in a place of honor integrated into the final design, and all donations are tax-deductible. Please donate now!
Now more than ever, Vallejoans are coming together in the spirit of self-reliance. City Park's new playground is a great example of that, and will be "Community Built" in every way by children, artists, trades people, and "Wish-Granters" like you. Thank you for helping make this dream a reality!
Who We Are
PreserveCityPark.org is the online home for the City Park Committee of the Vallejo Architectural Heritage Foundation. The Committee is made up of neighbors, concerned citizens and preservationists. We are partnering with the Police, City Government, and other like-minded organizations to find creative ways to improve and protect this great Vallejo treasure. The committee was formed to fight the crime and neglect that have plagued Vallejo's City Park for many years. Our goal is to rejuvenate this historic park and make it a place that the entire community enjoys.
Our Plan
We have established a multi-faceted plan to revitalize City Park. It is well balanced and comprehensive, emphasizing increased security and positive usage while at the same time respecting the historic nature of the park. The plan is composed of five separate, but related projects:- Designing a "community built" playarea for our children.
- Creating a neighborhood center from the existing building.
- Implementing much needed landscape improvements
- Enhancing security
To ensure that all work respects the historic significance of the Park, a Cultural Landscape is being prepared. Follow the links on the left to learn more about these projects, or you can read the entire plan here.
Please help in any way you can!
